Workforce in German states 1991-2016. Helmut Kohl's "unification" effect.

Helmut Kohl, chancellor of Germany for 16 (!) years, is widely credited for the unification of Germany. Undeservedly so. That credit goes to Gorbachev. Anyway.

Here is an interesting table which shows the development of the labor force in Germany starting from 1991 until 2016 in the old states and the new. Hardly anything to be proud of.
