Basically this latest European Court of Human Rights ruling about liability for user comments is A-Okay with German lawyers

The Germans never cease to surprise about their understanding of human rights and free speech. If this internet thingy would all be regulated by the German government, they would feel secure.

Here is just one example of a lawyer who does not understand all that noise about this ECHR ruling because it is just about a fine of "only Euro 320" and it would not apply in general to comments made on forums.

I am sorry, dude, are you naive? But there are more somber minds when you scroll down to the comments of his post.

#3 has a healthy assessment when saying "it all starts piecemeal" and #10 totally digs what the German article on slander is all about and that it needs to be abolished in total (1).

#6 has an interesting take: why not enable an internet forum so that users can delete comments? Hey, that is great! The Internet SS. However he is disillusioned about human kind in general:
Gegen beleidigende Aussagen muss ein anderes Mittel gefunden werden. Aber ganz offensichtlich ist die Menschheit noch nicht so weit…
(Against slander other means have to be found. But obviously human kind has not reached that stage ...)
I mean, who can argue with this German Heidegger 2.0?

#12 is obviously an idiot when he writes that the prosecution of murder might as well be purged because some people still keep doing that.

Good night, you Germans. Oh, Techdirt thinks you are completely nuts in Europe. No argument with that.

(1) There are about 250,000 slander cases each year in court in Germany and most are totally ridiculous. Like this one ('Bulle' means cop).
