Culture matters

Golem XIV has an interesting post about culture, refugees and the culture they experience in their country of refuge and which often collide. Globalism and economic differences also come into play.

Culture Matters

Over the last few months the Brexit debate brought to a head long running arguments about immigration, racism and multiculturalism. It has not been uplifting. People accused each other of being racists, haters, ignorant and lost, as simmering discontents and prejudices all came to the boil. Is it possible to address any of the issues from a different starting place, one that might be less polarised and poisoned? Here is my attempt.
Culture Matters.
When refugees and immigrants arrive on some foreign shore they are more than just an economic burden or benefit and they come with more than the clothes they stand in. You cannot see it in the photos or videos but they bring with them their culture.  It is, apart from those whose hands they are holding on to, their most precious possession. And yet this word ‘culture’ has been too often missing from our debate.
The culture that refugees and immigrants bring with them forms a significant part of who they feel themselves to be, not just individually but collectively. It binds them together and gives them a shared identity. It is the end result of the long and rich history which they all recognise as theirs. Their culture is the storehouse of their history and of their shared assumptions and values. It matters to them.
By exactly the same token, wherever immigrants arrive, they are not arriving in a blank ‘territory’, or ‘place on a map’ where there is work to be had. They are arriving in a culture. A culture which is the result of another long and rich history. A history that has made the shared assumptions and cultural values of those who already live there.  And the people who live in that place hold that culture very dear. Their culture matters to them.
This is my starting place. Culture matters. It is a simple statement, but one from which, if you accept it, a great deal unfolds.

Culture Matters – A conclusion
For a moment let’s return to that beach where we started. There are the people coming ashore, hoping for something better, for themselves and their children, than the war or poverty they left behind. They have little but what they do have, what they cling to, is the culture which connects them to their home, their past and to each other. Facing them what do they see? Another culture? Yes, but one that seems confused about itself, wracked with self doubt and attacked from without and within.
They find a culture which makes great efforts to welcome and respect other cultures but which pours scorn on expressions of its own culture. They find a culture where multiculturalism is talked about but where the engine of economic and legal change seems to be deeply antagonistic towards the indigenous culture and to culture in general.
I suggest immigrants who arrive here with a strong and energetic culture quickly see that what faces them is a culture under relentless attack from without by an economic ideology which has no place for culture, and that at the same time has been infected within, by a kind of cultural auto-immune disease of self loathing. The first comes from the politics of the Right the second from the Left.
If I am in any way right and this is the crisis we are in, then can anyone blame an immigrant for not wanting to join us? Their choice are simple, keep to the culture you brought with you, or join an infected culture which is destroying itself.
It is my belief that people have the right to say no to aspects of other cultures they do not like, but much more importantly they have the right to say no to the idea of no culture. Immigrants are already saying no to the ideology of No Culture. I believe they are right and we must join them. Only if we say no to ‘no culture’ and re-affirm our own, will immigrants be attracted by the culture they find here and tempted to it.
It is my belief that people are able to welcome strangers and other cultures when they feel confident in themselves and their own culture. I believe what has been fuelling concerns about immigration is not a rise in racism but a creeping feeling that English culture is being crushed between globalism from without and self-loathing from within. I do not loath English culture. I am proud of it. Like all cultures it has things of which it should be ashamed, but it also has things of which it can be proud.
For me multiculturalism risks becoming the cultural arm of the economic forces which make every place the same. I prefer a world of differences. A world of different languages not one vast sprawl of english. A world of different cultures, not a spreading multicultural one.
Allow people to have a strong sense of self worth and pride in their own culture. Allow them to say ‘this is my home’ and then they will be able to say ‘welcome’ to strangers at the door. Tell them they have no right to claim this place as theirs or say that ‘this is the culture of this place’, and they will become afraid and prey to the peddler’s of hate.
Celebrating your own culture is not the same as hating others nor does it lead to it. Culture Matters. History Matters. Place Matters. Deny these at your peril.

German Home Minister de Maizière, by staying silent you are condoning Nazi methods against a blogger.

with apologies to Shah Jahan

Thomas de Maizière, Home Minister and chief anti-Muslim hate monger of racist Germany,

It is with tremendous personal discomfort that I had to paraphrase one of the greatest and learned persons of a religion and peoples upon which our present-day living and science is based and that so much enriched and keeps enriching our lives, regardless of one being a religious human being or agnostic. A religion, that is so disparaged by people and the media of your country and which is not mine.

Having said that, you are aware of the following incident yet you chose to stay mum. That in itself is quite telling!

Here the lowdown again in concise form:

On May 7, 2015 a criminal complaint was sent by email to the Bavarian Police from the IP address 217.253.91.237 under a false name according to the police report!

This was followed in October 2015 with three police ARMED with FIREGUNS (two men, one woman) coming to our apartment around 7:40 AM and confiscating ALL our IT equipment including router, USB sticks, ext. HD, cables and including my smartphone. One police man dashed into the room of my daughter without knocking. My daughter had already left for school. They took photos of our apartment and of the house. These are Nazi methods!

I was frisked and it was obvious that the female officer had been tasked to bodysearch my daughter and that they would have confiscated her smartphone as well.

We are 99% sure based on convincing circumstancial evidence, that the sender is either from the Jobcenter, the Federal Employment Agency Munich or a goon.

An IP address lookup established as location "80999 Munich". Due South of this location in about 2 km distance as the crow flies the Jobcenter Pasing is located and about 3 km NE is the home of a staff member of the Jobcenter head office. (Geo location is not 100% precise)

The police, which to an extent falls in your portfolio, did nothing to establish the true person behind the false name! They were rather occupied to do everything to shut down a blogger, who incidentally happens to be me.

May I direct your valued attention, should it not be preoccupied by yet another populist rant against refugees and/or Muslim, to the following passages of a fairly recent decision of the European Court of Human Rights in the CASE OF SCHATSCHASCHWILI v. GERMANY (Application no. 9154/10). BTW, yet another case of a violation of fair trial in Germany! You are aware of that certain Oscar Wilde quote, aren't you?
120.   In  cases  concerning  a  witness’s  absence  owing  to  unreachability, the  Court  requires  the  trial  court  to  have  made  all  reasonable  efforts  to secure  the  witness’s  attendance  (see  Gabrielyan  v.  Armenia,  no.  8088/05, §  78,  10  April  2012;  Tseber  v.  the  Czech  Republic,  no.  46203/08,  §  48, 22  November  2012;  and  Kostecki  v.  Poland,  no.  14932/09,  §§  65  and  66, 4  June  2013).  The  fact  that  the  domestic  courts  were  unable  to  locate  the witness  concerned  or  the  fact  that  a  witness  was  absent  from  the  country  in which  the  proceedings  were  conducted  was  found  not  to  be  sufficient  in itself  to  satisfy  the  requirements  of  Article  6  §  3  (d),  which  require  the Contracting  States  to  take  positive  steps  to  enable  the  accused  to  examine  or have  examined  witnesses  against  him  (see  Gabrielyan,  cited  above,  §  81; Tseber,  cited  above,  §  48;  and  Lučić  v.  Croatia,  no.  5699/11,  §  79, 27  February  2014).  Such  measures  form  part  of  the  diligence  which  the Contracting  States  have  to  exercise  in  order  to  ensure  that  the  rights guaranteed  by  Article  6  are  enjoyed  in  an  effective  manner  (see  Gabrielyan, cited  above,  §  81,  with  further  references).  Otherwise,  the  witness’s  absence is  imputable  to  the  domestic  authorities  (see  Tseber,  cited  above,  §  48,  and Lučić,  cited  above, § 79).
I would deem the following paragraph of particular interest:
121.   It  is  not  for  the  Court  to  compile  a  list  of  specific  measures  which the  domestic  courts  must  have  taken  in  order  to  have  made  all  reasonable efforts  to secure  the  attendance  of  a  witness  whom  they  finally  considered to be  unreachable  (see  Tseber,  cited  above,  §  49).  However,  it  is  clear that  they must  have  actively  searched  for  the  witness  with  the  help  of  the  domestic authorities  including  the  police  (see  Salikhov,  cited  above,  §§  116-17; Prăjină  v.  Romania,  no.  5592/05,  §  47,  7  January  2014;  and  Lučić,  cited above,  §  79)  and  must,  as  a  rule,  have  resorted  to  international  legal assistance  where  a  witness  resided  abroad  and  such  mechanisms  were available  (see  Gabrielyan,  cited  above,  §  83;  Fąfrowicz,  cited  above,  §  56; Lučić,  cited  above, § 80;  and  Nikolitsas,  cited  above, § 35).

I demand to know the name and address of the person hiding behind the false name! You have the means to get the name. Get it done!

I would expect an answer of substance within one week. Should this not materialize, I will file a complaint for failure to commit to his responsibility of due diligence against police officer Carstens from Munich. The complaint will be in English and also submitted to the European Court of Human Rights as part of my submitted Complaint No. 35285/16.

Mark Blyth and Wendy Schiller – Election 2016: What Happened and Why?

Cross posted from Naked Capitalism.

Even though this assessment of the Trump win and the implications for American politics going forward is long, it’s also meaty and very much worth your attention. Mark Blyth was virtually the only person to call a Trump victory from the get-go (a colleague who spends a lot of time outside the Acela corridor is another member of that club) but also correctly gamed out how the stock market would react.

Everything Blyth says is incisive, colorful, and on the mark. By contrast, it’s frustrating listening to Schiller because she is invested heavily in Dem orthodoxy, and not even in the plausible parts: the Hillary scandals were manufactured by Republicans, Sanders would have lost if he were the Democratic candidate, Clinton was a victim of being a woman with a long political career (hello?). Similarly, towards the end, Blyth says, “There is no left left. It’s already had its lunch eaten,” and explains why, and then Schiller begs to differ by trying to depict the Democrats as still a real force and capable of being “renovated”. Help me. But she does have some random insightful remarks.

In other words, you can run the video and tune your attention in and out, although you may then want to go back and listen to just the Mark Blyth remarks a second time. There’s a lot of solid material here.

There are some good references about Europe. And just to be sure, Italy's Renzi is gone! Fatso Sigmar Gabriel is mentioned. Mark Blyth is always to the point.

Wall Street traders boo Hillary Clinton, chant 'Lock her up!'

Killary Rotten Clinton
You wouldn't believe this coming from CNN, but it just shows what a screwed up bitch she is. The same rotten individual the German cocksucker press endorsed and promoted all along. No matter what.

Look at the face of Bill Clinton. The German press said nothing towards this sexual predator. Instead they jerked off in public over a ridiculous and funny video showing Trump talking about loose women. And everybody knows for money grabbing their pussy is easy. It is the only capital they have and they use it.

Loud booing rocked the floor of the storied New York Stock Exchange on Wednesday during Hillary Clinton's concession speech to President-elect Donald Trump.
Some of the Wall Street traders began chanting "lock her up!," as Clinton appeared on television screens, urging her millions of disappointed supporters to accept the stunning defeat.
"Ding-dong, the witch is dead," shouted another floor trader.
The harsh reception for Clinton is the latest chapter in the bitter campaign for the White House.
....

People are sick and tired of this fucking bitch.

Nassim Taleb nailed it:

. . . . . . .

Here is good journalism as opposed to the German cocksuckers. The NY Times:

Donald Trump Rode to Power in the Role of the Common Man

Donald John Trump defied the skeptics who said he would never run, and the political veterans who scoffed at his slapdash campaign.

He attacked the norms of American politics, singling out groups for derision on the basis of race and religion and attacking the legitimacy of the political process.

He ignored conventions of common decency, employing casual vulgarity and raining personal humiliation on his political opponents and critics in the media.

German Chancellery, is there free speech in Germany or is computer confiscation the better solution?

Manfred Jäger
Aglaia Muth

G'day at the German Chancellery,

I am contacting you today since any communications are being refused by the Ministries of Labor, Home and Justice. This is my first email of two, both regarding vicious attempts of German government agencies, the Munich court and in this case a crooked lawyer to infringe my right to free speech.

This email relates to the complaint made by Manfred Jäger, these days head of the German Labor Agency Ingolstadt, with regard to the publication of this post on my blog.

German Labor Agency did not like this post = computer confiscation
For three years the court in Munich and my crooked court appointed "lawyer" Aglaia Muth refused to give access to the criminal complaint. Munich prosecutor Peter Preuss went so far to cite a "legitimate interest of protection" for the complainant. It later turned out the Chief of the Employment Agency in the city of Ingolstadt Mr. Jäger was afforded this "legitimate interest of protection". The same prosecutor Peter Preuss brushed off my daughter's request in typical Bavarian primitivity. This is in direct violation of Article 6 ECHR.

After an intensive search on the Internet, I finally discovered the decisions of the ECHR in the cases 'Foucher v. France', 'The Fortum Corporation v. Finland' and 'SUOMINEN v. FINLAND'. Only after I referred to these cases, the court in Munich finally relented after more than three years of dodging and in May 2016 I was given access to the case file which mysteriously did not include the whole correspondence of Mr Jäger. A total of 19 pages were missing!!! I was under the impression that Zimbabwe lies further South.

Written requests to Munich prosecutor Weinzierl on June 3 and July 25 to release these pages went unanswered. An email to the Min. of Justice, The Ministry of Labor and the Munich prosecutor from August 30, 2016 elicited in typical German fashion no response.

In October 2016 I filed a criminal complaint against Minister of Labor Andrea Nahles which was expectedly turned down in this corrupt country.

I urge the German government to make sure that I finally get the fucking files that bloke Manfred Jäger had sent to the police in 2012, altogether 19 pages.

I demanded a retrial and I do not entertain the slightest doubt that I will ultimately get one. To the retrial I will call as witnesses:

1. The complainant Manfred Jäger, Federal Labor Agency Ingolstadt (who will appear with absolutely no doubt)
2. My crooked court appointed lawyer Aglaia Muth (same as above)
3. Former Minister of Labor von der Leyen, or
4. Present Minister of Labor Nahles

I might add that I have a disdain for fat people though.

I absolutely guarantee the German government that in the event of a second guilty verdict, I will try my absolute best to get this case before the European Court of Human Rights, unless the Red Robes in Karlsruhe come to their senses. A complete and very concise report about heinous actions of German government agencies and German courts against me and my daughter can be read here.

It looks like the ECHR has an interest in our case filed under Complaint No. 35285/16.

Thank you for your attention and I would appreciate an answer within one week.

Oh, I just learned that Germany has yet again been reprimanded by the ECHR in the CASE OF SCHATSCHASCHWILI v. GERMANY.

Nobody infringes my right to free speech !

Sincerely,

That nagging, fucking problem Manfred Jäger has with free speech.
