Just give up, you are considered to be racist anyway

It seems you can not get it right with other people, no matter what you do and/or say.

The “preference” paradox: Disclosing racial preferences in attraction is considered racist even by people who overtly claim it is not

Highlights
  • It is considered more racist to have racial preference in attraction than not.
  • Effect emerges even for people who claim it is not racist to have preferences.
  • Effect emerges if preferences are communicated disinterest in certain races.
  • Effect emerges if preferences are communicated as a preference for a certain race.
  • Effect emerges whether preferences are communicated as absolute or soft.
There is contention about whether having racial preferences in the domain of sexual attraction constitutes racism, or simply reflects benign partiality. .. Such preferences typically entail the exclusion of members of certain racial groups. .. Many lay people report that they do not consider racial inclinations in attraction to be "racist", but simply a benign personal preference. Three studies were conducted to investigate whether a target disclosing a racial preference would be rated as more racist than a target not doing so, and if this would differ based on whether the rater overtly stated that they believed having racial preferences in attraction is racist or not. Perceived attractiveness and dateability of the target were also assessed, along with participants' personal willingness to have relations (i.e., friendship, sexual, romantic) with the target. ..

People who disclose racial preferences in attraction are consistently perceived as more racist than those who do not... Participants generally rated the target as more racist, less attractive, less dateable, and were less personally willing to have relations with him.. This effect was robust, emerging even in participants who overtly claimed that they believed it is not racist to have racial preferences... Study 1 demonstrated this effect for racial preferences communicated as disinterest in particular racial minority groups. Study 2 demonstrated this effect for racial preferences communicated as an exclusive preference for a specific racial group. Study 3 demonstrated this effect irrespective of whether the racial preference was communicated as an absolute or a soft preference. .. These findings also uncover a paradox, demonstrating that even the people who do not consider the disclosure of racial preferences to be racist may not genuinely believe this to be the case. These people still clearly attribute more racism to targets disclosing racial preferences. This recognition that racial preferences in attraction do reflect racism on some level has implications for their proclivities toward targets disclosing racial preferences; they are less willing to have relations with such targets, and largely find them less dateable. .. It should be noted that the present research only investigated people's responses to White targets. Past research suggests that observers often attribute less racism to racial minority group members who engage in racially discriminatory behavior..
